#10 Penn State – 9, Michigan – 14

UTTERLY HORRENDOUS!

Really the only phrase that I can use to describe this game.  For each of the first three games of the season, Penn State’s offense started out slowly in the first half, but got better in the second half.  So perhaps I expected the same this week.  Not so…  In fact, the offense started out poorly and finished even worse.  270 total yards, 101 yards rushing (although it sure looked like less while watching it on TV).  Morelli was absolutely horrible, bringing his inaccuracy to a brand new level.  The statistics don’t hide it this week: 15 of 31 for 169 yards.  And how many touchdowns did the boys score?  ZERO!  The ineptitude...

#12 Penn State – 45, Buffalo – 24 In yet ANOTHER sloppy game, Penn State managed to pull out a win. The first half was simply ugly - it seemed that the team was simply asleep. Was it that they were on a down moment after the win at Notre Dame, or was it that they didn't think Buffalo had a chance to do anything - don't know. Either way, Buffalo showed up to play. Once again the offense looked pathetic and ineffective; Morelli was horribly inaccurate and Austin Scott lost 2 fumbles in the first half, as well as not being able to run. Even the defense appeared a bit lathargic. After half time, however, the team must have awakened. The Lions of the second half passed and ran much better. Buffalo pulled out some late 4th quarter scores courtesy of the PSU 2nd and 3rd string defenders. While I give props to the Buffalo QB, Drew Willy, he seemed surrounded by less than capable team mates. In my opinion, this kid should have gone to a better school - he was smart, accurate (as accurate as you can be again the Lions D) and poised. I almost wish we had him on our team!...

#14 Penn State – 31, Notre Dame – 10  It wasn't FIU, but then again Notre Dame isn't looking all that great this year anyways.  The team settled into their usual style this week - trying to run Austin Scott up the middle and Anthony Morelli being terribly inaccurate.  Despite that, the offense eventually wore down the Notre Dame defense, and towards the 2nd half of the game, the ground attack was doing some major damage.  Morelli tossed his first pick (and a pick 6, at that) of the year on an awful throw in the first quarter to give ND a 7 - 0 lead.  "Here we go again" I said.

>Welcome to Penn State (and college football), Jimmy!!!

#17 Penn State – 59, Florida International – 0 In their first game of the year, PSU gets my mixed review for trouncing little FIU by 59 points, including shutting them out completely. The defense was completely dominant, forcing 5 fumbles, getting a few sacks and holding their rushing production to -3 yards. I have always loved PSU’s defense, but these guys were just pumped up and heading to the ball on every play! I’ve not seen such a fast defense from PSU since I’ve been watching them, a good 12 years now. On just about every play they were RUSHING the QB, and keeping up with the receivers , at most times overwhelming all parts of FIU’s offense. It was just fantastic! On the other side of the...

No, it’s not Christmas time – but even better: FOOTBALL SEASON!!!

Wow, it’s been some time since I’ve blogged, but now that football season is upon us, look for at least a weekly entry chronicling Penn State’s football season, the Steelers’ season, and my two fantasy football contests. And it all starts today!
